Make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE building donation towards the new BCVFD Firehouse
The Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department responds to approximately 600 fire and ambulance calls per year. The present firehouse located on Noel Road was built in 1905. It was originally built to house hose wagons. The firehouse has been renovated and expanded many times over the years and, due to the building lot size limitations, we cannot expand the current facility any further. Our current building, due to advanced age and heavy use, constantly requires repairs and attention just to remain usable.
Some years ago, the members of the Broad Channel Fire Department realized that the current building site would not be able to support the growing size of or department. With this in mind a building committee was formed and through special fund raising efforts the committee was able to purchase a suitable building site. An architect was hired, plans were drawn, and the department has gone through most of the necessary review and approval processes that the City of New York requires.
The funds received from our annual fund drive and occasional grants are not sufficient to cover an expenditure of this magnitude. Through the efforts of our local Congressman, the Honorable Anthony Weiner and our Senator, the Honorable Hilary Clinton, federal funding has been appropriated. President Bush signed PL 109-59 into law in 2005; this law entitles the Broad Channel Fire Department access to a substantial sum for construction. To access these funds, the BCVFD must contribute a 20% matching dollar amount. We cannot access the federal allocation without the providing matching funding.
We appeal to you, our friends, neighbors, and especially to our BROTHER FIREFIGHTERS from across this great country for help. Our fellow volunteers know how difficult it is to raise funds. We are not asking for much, a 50-50 at the monthly meeting or passing the helmet will help greatly.
Below is a list of donations that are needed to fund the construction of a new firehouse. Your tax-deductible contribution is an investment in the lives and the future of the Broad Channel community. You have an opportunity to leave a lasting mark; all contributors to the building campaign will have their donations prominently and permanently displayed in the new firehouse.
No time is a good time to ask for money... but we truly need your help.
WE have always been there for you, please be there for us.
