A Fund Drive update from BCVFD chief, Dan McIntyre: "The BCVFD has completed a first visit to all homes in town. We are happy to announce that, as of this date, 26% of our neighbors have contributed to the 2008 Fund Drive effort. Members will be heading out to those who we have not heard from, during the weeks to come.

Once again the weather is getting nice, flowers are blooming and summer is around the corner. This means swimmers, boaters, jetskis and water rescues for the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance rescue. This year our response to water emergencies will be a little faster thanks to the newest addition to the BCVFD. We recently received a 21-foot center console, twin 90 turbo outboard motorboat with trailer from an army base in Virginia.

The Department of Transportation has begun placing "No Parking Any Time" signs along many of the streets west of Cross Bay Boulevard as part of a plan to restrict parking on the "substandard width streets" in the island community, sparking widespread anger on the part of its residents.
